His music puts you in a zone, his style commands your attention and his face? Well lets just say it plays its part in the rise of George Lewis Jr. better known as Twin Shadow. Born in the Dominican Republic, 32 year old, Twin Shadow has amassed a following thanks to his unique sound and style showcased over the past five years on three albums, the latest being 2015’s “Eclipse” and many fashion spreads and runway shows thanks to the fashion brand Public School. Growing up, his musical style was molded by an eclectic group of artists that included Bobby Brown, Keith Sweat, Bob Dylan and The Beatles to name a few. Formerly of Brooklyn New York, Twin Shadow now resides on the Golden Coast where he continues to grow as an artist and inspire fashion. Stun takes you through some of his music, Interviews and yes his style, because if the music and fashion worlds are buzzing about George Lewis Jr. then you need to understand why.
On how his relationship with Public School began T Magazine:
The partnership itself, though, is far from new. Lewis met Osborne and Chow when he was just coming off his first record, 2009’s alt-pop slow burn “Forget.” “I was still living in Bushwick and just barely getting my feet on the ground with Twin Shadow,” says Lewis, when his manager informed him that he had helped inspire Public School’s first collection. “I went up to meet the guys and there were pictures of me all up on a pinboard — I was super weirded out,” he says with a chuckle. (Lewis had thought it was his music, more than his appearance, that had influenced the designers.) Despite the awkward introduction, the three immediately clicked and soon after, Lewis appeared in a fashion film for the brand. “It’s been ongoing ever since,” Lewis says.
On his fashion future from GQ:
I mean, I’m amazed by it. It’s an exciting playground. And I’m very interested in it just from an aesthetic standpoint. I go through phases where I can be very motorcycle T-shirt, jeans, leather jacket, and that’s it. That’s my life. But then, there are times when I see—like I’ve been looking at some of the new stuff that Calvin Klein is doing with shorter shorts with leggings underneath, and these translucent raincoats, and I’m like, “Oh, I would wear that every day in LA.” And I get really into the moments where people are making bold moves. I really like to get behind it. And part of that is your connection, and part of that is also being able to afford and have the confidence to rock some of that stuff.
