Music mogul Lyor Cohen is the man behind some of biggest names in music. Artist like Jay Z, Young Thug, Ll Cool J, Beastie Boys, Run DMC and many more. He lives the lifestyle funded by his successful music career running major companies like Warner Music Group, Def Jam, 300 Entertainment and now Youtube Music. Cohen married his second wife Xin Li, a Christies exec at his Hamptons beach house last summer which gave the public a little peek at the property. But now Architectural Digest is taking us inside and around the home where the music mogul his wife and family spend weekends in the summer on New York’s Long Island.
He hired Marc Turkel of New York–based Leroy Street Studio to execute the concept. Cohen was a demanding client. Laughing, he recalls that over the almost three-year design and construction process, which finished in 2015, Turkel tried on more than one occasion to fire the homeowner from the project. “The challenge here was to make a modern house warm,” Cohen says. “I didn’t just want a glass box.” He and Turkel were also aware of size and proportion: “We fought constantly to resist the temptation to be grandiose for all the wrong reasons.”
