What and Who?
-19 year old Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty on all 3o charges brought against him for his roll in the Boston marathon bombing that killed 4 people and injured and maimed many others
-Jurors deliberated for 11 hrs
-But Boston doesn’t have a death penalty law so how can he be sentenced to death? This is true. However the case is a federal case and the federal government can carry out a death penalty sentence.
-What now? Dzhokhar Tsarnaev will go back in front of the judge sometime next week to receive his official sentencing
-Death or life in prison? He will likely spend the rest of his life in prison confined to a cell for about 23 hours a day.
-What are the families of the victims saying? Liz Norden, the mother of brothers J.P. and Paul Norden who each lost a leg in the bombing said she is “grateful for the outcome”.
-How did Dzhokhar Tsarnaev react when the verdict was read? He swayed slightly on his feet, his head down, as the verdict was read and as the forewoman of the jury stared directly at him. He showed no reaction.
