STUNNED BY DRE
She’s been known as Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child. Beyonce’s adopted sister, the dark skinned one. But for years since the group split, Kelly Rowland has been clawing her way out of that box, but more so, out of the Knowles family shadow and the shadow of their bread and butter, Beyonce. It wasn’t easy being managed by the father of one of the world’s biggest solo female pop stars. Many craved a Kelly Rowland solo effort and when it did come, it was overshadowed some say deliberately by the Beyonce machine. Kelly’s performances at award shows would be topped by a performance by Beyonce and her solo efforts would only get a lite shove instead of a full shove by the same power that pushed her “sister” and fellow former Destiny’s Childer Beyonce.
Fastfoward to 2011, and Kelly Rowland is finally taking charge of her career with the same seriousness and aggressiveness Beyonce used to reach to the top as a solo artist. She finally fired Mathew Knowles, father of Beyonce as her manager and slowly started to separate herself musically from the Knowles family. The results are clear and successful as Kelly has taken on a new sound, look and has much buzz around her new music. Her single ‘Motivation’ which features cameo king Lil Wayne, is a runaway hit at radio and in the club and is climbing the iTunes charts on it’s way to breaking into the top 20. There is so much buzz around Kelly Rowland right now that many are asking whether or not Beyonce can deal with Kelly’s success or will she try to crush her? One thing’s for sure, Kelly isn’t worried and she hasn’t looked back since she broke free from the clutches of Mathew Knowles. There is a major effort at Universal Motown Records group to make sure Kelly Rowland reaches the highest level of success possible with her new CD. We love the underdog, because they almost always come out on top in the end, and Kelly is surely that right now. Splitting her time between recording, charity events and vacationing, Kelly is taking her time to carve out her spot in a market dominated by her former group mate and other solo female artists like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. But if the confidence she’s been displaying effortlessly is any indication, Kelly Rowland’s got this.
