Beyonce may be the superstar of the Knowles family, but she isn’t the only star, or businesswoman, mom, wife etc. Solange over the years has managed to stay out of her sister’s shadow by walking her own path. She is low key, but present. Influential but humble. She’s built a name for herself in the music and fashion industries. In fact, she is seen as a fashion icon thanks to her unique bold style and natural beauty. She’s been moving in a quasi stealth mode for many years now, and seems to like it exactly that way. The singer/designer/mom/wife/music mogul who just turned 29 back on June 24, has been building her empire somewhat under the radar since her early teenage years.
THE MUSIC AND FILMS:
At the age of 14 she was in the studio working on her debut album “Solo Star” under the production leadership of people like the Neptunes , Timbaland and Linda Perry. She co-wrote and produced the entire album. Though the album fell short of expectations, it didn’t slow her down. She’s made appearances in films and television shows like “Johnson Family Vacation” and “One on One”. Over the years she’s released new music and videos to keep her feet wet in the industry while raising a son and constantly on the move. She’s a busy woman. Earlier this year she was the featured DJ at the Oscar’s Governors Ball. She’s spun at other major events like the Michael Kors Spring Ball where she not only wowed them with her music selections but with her fashion. Though she despises the politics of the music industry she is very much entrenched in it. Through her own label with Sony Music called Saint Records, Solange works to bring overlooked artists to the forefront. A perfect example of that is the critically acclaimed release “Saint Heron” which featured artists like Cassie, India Shawn, B.C. Kingdom, Petite Noir, Imani Omari and Solange. Saint Records’ mission statement reads:
Saint Records was designed to give new and ingenious artists a space to create their music and circulate their art – in turn becoming a haven for R&B lovers and listeners to discover music free of marketplace politics. The intent of the album, and the label at large, is to feature, highlight and align a new movement of contemporary, genre-defying R&B visionaries, which will serve as a segue into the diverse evolution of these independent artists as they share their voices and words as only they can – through pure, unadulterated music.
SaintHeron.com is a website that also serves as a platform to introduce new artists to a broader audience. It also focuses on art, culture and fashion.
Here is Solange’s track from the Saint Heron compilation:
She was the talk of the Michael Kors Spring Ball thanks to her all-cream pantsuit ensemble, oh yeah and her djing skills. Solange is admired and talked about in the fashion world. Her looks are trendsetting and inspirational to many. Glamour magazine once said “Frankly, we’ve been astounded by her evolving look”. We have to say we are also big fans of Solange’s style. Here are some of our favorite Solange looks:
Back in 2014 she partnered with Puma and designers Gerlan Jeans, Hisham Bharoocha, and William Okpo to design and launch a sneaker collection. The collection called “Girls of Blaze” was such a success, Puma and Solange rolled out a second collection under her creative direction. The new collections dubbed “Wild Wonder” and “Behind The Bazaar” went on sale in December of last year and is said to be doing well for both Puma and Solange. She shares her world via her Instagram could serve as an inspiration board for anyone looking to create a look, paint a room or even take a vacation. It’s like looking through a design magazine. At just 29, Solange has only begun to scratch the surface across everything she’s involved in. Like we said, she moves in silence but her movements are felt and seen in a huge scale.
